The Killer
David Fincher directs this American science fiction action thriller while Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en) is responsible for writing the screenplay, based on a graphic novel series, produced by Luc Jacamon and based on works by Alexis “Matz” Nolent.
The titular assassin serves as the protagonist of the film, decided into six chapters, which follows him as he conducts an international vendetta after a failed hit shot. From the opening sequence, laden with the voice over monologue of the main character, the unrelenting focus and courageous performance from Fassbender and the sleek direction of Fincher, elevate it to the level of a welcomed Fincher thriller. Unfeeling as they come, predictable in its simplicity, the film is weirdly daring and original in its execution.
There have been numerous comments made about how The Killer is comparable to the film Le Samourai, which was released in 1967. However, David Fincher has established himself as a formidable director with the release of this tension-filled and intriguing thriller, and Michael Fassbender is evidently the ideal choice for the role of the leading character.
Even though Finchers’ direction and Fassbender’s acting abilities are remarkable, there is very little emotional response to the story or the characters in the film. Fassbender, much like the exceptionally talented director David Fincher, can create films that are able to hold your attention even during the more tedious moments in this film.
